You can call me Bret or you can call me Pastor, but please don't call me
Reverend! It has always been my desire to be nothing other than an ordinary
guy who loves God and His Word. That's who I am and that is what I desire
for our church to be - a bunch of ordinary people loving God and living
fulfilled lives because of Him.
What is my vision? To stand out as a local church that passionately
embraces the vision of God. Our personal perspectives sometimes blinds us
to the truth that God has big plans for every person - and every church.
A long time ago God gave me a personal endeavor
to reach the world with His truth. I literally mean the world! Some would
say that is just a dream imagined by the mind of a young man, but I say
that it is the vision of an all-powerful God upon ANY believer's life that
is willing to embrace it. That same vision is now being passed on to a congregation
of Christians called Faith Baptist Church..
How do we accomplish such a task? Let me share the three D's with you:
DEVOTION: I believe everything we do for God is an outflow of our personal
relationship with Him and His Word. So the key to getting
others to "outflow" on a greater basis and in a further direction
is to deepen their own relationship with the Lord. Everything I do is geared
toward
teaching the Bible to anyone willing to listen. And it's more than just
teaching, but also teaching others how to learn and know for themselves.
Back in school the teacher would make you show how you got your answer.
That is my preaching style - not only to exclaim the truths of God's Word
but to show others how to do the same. I believe if people are genuinely
seeking a relationship with God, then all you have to do is point them in
the right direction and they'll find their way. God's faithfulness ensures
that! Devotion is for personal strength.
DISCIPLESHIP: The people who followed the Lord Jesus and adopted his ways
into their life were called disciples long before they were
called Christians! Discipleship is a lifestyle of reproduction. It's a process
of taking something of you that is real and impacting and passing it on
to someone else. I was personally raised in "church" yet without
growth until someone came along and began to disciple me. It was the missing
link that made Jesus Christ and the Christian life realistic and obtainable
- and I began to grow.
In the Bible the church is called the body of Christ. Every "body" is a living organism - the church is no exception. Yet, so many churches today seem stagnant and dead. I believe discipleship, done in a systematic and consistent way, is the answer. Everywhere in the church people should be reproducing themselves. Discipleship is for collective strength.
DOORS:
By the word "doors" I simply mean to follow the opportunities the Lord offers - every door He opens. A church must reach the world around them. To keep the treasures of God to ourselves would be to turn Christianity into piracy. My commission from God is to prepare and equip the individuals God gives me to go anywhere at any time with the One truth of God. Doors are for social strength.
I have been the pastor of Faith Baptist Church for a relatively short time, but already we have seen God do great things in and through us. We watch God, and then we move and align ourselves to become part of HIS action. What an awesome God we serve!
